There seems to be a popular idea that there are some people who have achieved a great deal of artistic success because their work is completely new and original. Although this may be true, it seems better to view them, and the creative processes as a whole, in light of those craftsmen, musicians, writers, etc. who have gone before us, and serve as the foundation on which we stand (and build on) as artists– including people like Sam Maloof.
